Recently, in v7.4, the option was added to choose ‘Advanced Rotation’ for the mini scheduler settings.
Furthermore, there is no explanation available about this new method within the mini scheduler, which is why I am asking the following questions here in general. This way, everyone has a good explanation right away, should one come.
How does this new function work compared to the previously present strategies?
Why can one choose from different ‘Sort Orders’ and what could be the advantages and disadvantages of certain choices in this?
I understand that this was initially implemented for a customer, but is now being implemented in the standard versions of mAirlist. Is there a possibility to get a short explanation of what the customer in question wanted to achieve with this and what this new function therefore offers extra. It seems that this option can certainly be an added value, but a (brief or otherwise) explanation could clarify its use.
I hope that @Torben sees an opportunity in his busy schedule to give a short explanation here. Many users will probably find this explanation useful.
The regular “Smart” and “Rotation” modes sort items by their last schedule date (oldest to newest), so that items whicih haven’t been scheduled for a long time will get scheduled first.
“Advanced Rotation” allows you to specify different sort criteria, e.g. the item ID, title or filename.
It will also store the index of the last scheduled item internally, so it will resume where it left off when you schedule for the next time. (Doesn’t work if you re-generate hours.)
You are correct in assuming that this was initially implemented for a customer. That particular customer has a folder full of items (spoken text, in that case) which he wanted to schedule in the correct (alphabetical/numerical) order, one by one, at a particular time each day. Think audio book episodes.
Thanks Torben for the quick and clear explanation. This is another feature that many people will be testing for sure. I also want to get started with this and look at the scheduler logs to learn what this feature does exactly.

Now I’ve been working on it and I’m trying to understand the log file of the mini scheduler. What I notice is that nothing about penalty points is shown. Are these completely ignored with the new option or are they no longer visible? I tried to find out why the scheduler chooses a certain item, but couldn’t find anything.
Is there a way to get more explanation about this?
The settings of the advanced rotation are set to last played. So not to id or something else.

Hope @Torben can explain why the specific item is chosen, there are other items wich were played longer ago.
Separation rules and penalties are not used in Advanced Rotation mode, but the fixed sorting in the order you specify in the settings. That’s the whole point of it.
