Three Queries

Hi Torben
I use mAirList v2.2.0, mainly to record programmes for my local hospital radio station.

Could I please ask three questions?

  • Is there any way to re-assign fundtions on my keyboard? For example, can I specify “M” or another key to play a track, instead of “F1”?

  • Are there any plans to include an auto level feature, so all tracks are played at the same volume level?

  • Will mAirList work on a Mac?

Hope you do not mind me contacting you for advice - I’m a presenter with limited technical know-how!

Kind regards
Tony

Hi Tony, welcome to the mAirList forums.

To answer the first of your queries.

  1. Yes, go to the config tool and under remote control you can set any key to perform most of the functions within mAirlist. The route is config/remote control/loacl/add/hotkeys (local) .

In the options provided select the key and command required and click save.

Not sure about 2 but I believe mAirList is not yet ported to Mac although plans may be in place for Linux.

Torben will clear these points for you.

Kind regards tony

btw;which hospital station?

Many thanks for this, Tony

Will try this straight away - will be really useful.

Station is Dudley Hospital Radio, in West Midlands.

Kind regards
Tony

Auto level: No. mAirList plays all files at 0dB, assuming that they have been normalized during ripping.

Mac: http://forum.mairlist.com/index.php/topic,2270.0.html

Thanks very much for this, Torben and Tony. Kind regards, Tony

Tony, firstly welcome to the Forum! You’ll find there are quite a few of us UK mAirList fans here, and we are here to help with any query you have (and we’ve seen quite a few in here over the years!).

If your files are not already ‘normalised,’ I would recommend a great piece of freeware called MP3Gain (http://mp3gain.sourceforge.net/download.php)—which incidentally has a Mac version as well. ;D I won’t waste space describing it here; you can read about it yourself.

Personally, I rip files normalised (with silence removal) using dbPowerAmp Ripper, and then run the files through MP3Gain as well.

Also, if you have MP3s with non-removed silence at start/end because your ripper doesn’t do that, you can use the freeware mp3DirectCut (http://www.mpesch3.de1.cc/mp3dc.html) to remove it. mp3DirectCut is the only tool I know which edits MP3s as MP3s without any decoding or re-encoding; among lots of other fun things it can do.

Hope that helps?

Hi CAD

I’m very grateful to you and your colleagues for being so welcoming and helpful. These two files will be very useful indeed. A big thank-you!
