I noticed Chris’ idea of having the ESC key in auto mode stop the auto light flashing then stop after the current event.
I was wondering if it might be a consideration for the future to offer something similar for the mouse in auto mode. Where you could click on the stop button once, which would light the stop button up while the play button stayed lit up aswell, then wait until the current event was finished before stopping. Then perhaps on the second click it performs the usual fade/stop function like it currently does. This would prevent accidental full stops in automation and save having to flick back to assist or insert a break to stop the system after the current event if you plan on returning to auto after a quick live break etc…
Just a thought for those who also use auto during a live show and like using a mouse rather than keyboard for the same thing.
Personally, if I were using ‘AUTO-in-live-assist’ as it were, I would find it confusing to have to remember to click the STOP button twice to actually stop automation ‘right now.’ It seems counter-intuitive.
It could also be tricky to explain to trainees: ‘… well yes it is a STOP button, but you have to click it twice to stop it immediately instead of waiting for the current track to end. No, not double-click, it’s click-pause-click …’
I appreciate the idea, and though I think that sort of operation is always best done with an external button, I would counter-suggest that RIGHT-clicking the STOP button in a Playlist toolbar to ‘stop when current track ends’ would be a less frustrating way to implement this. It would also be much easier to do physically. (I don’t know about you, Gavin, but I find it VERY tricky to click-pause-click a mouse to cause two single clicks rather than a double-click—and yes I HAVE tweaked my Mouse in Control Panel!)
Maybe a “WAIT” button which will “wait for user action before playing next item”. Other systems - Torben, this is for you - Have an icon in the playlist that you can select and toggle how to the transition will work, ie: normal segue or stop and wait for action.
The “wait” points are usually pre-scheduled to co-incide with DJ breaks and when in “Live Assist” (or semi-auto), all Stop/Wait points are followed. However, if you select “Auto” - they are ignored, ideal for overnight/un-attended.
Hopefully, Torben - that’ll give you some idea of how it’s done on existing systems.
