Song dipping

Me again,
I have posting a topic in both mAirList 4.x & scripts asking about if it is possible to automatically dipping a song when a sweeper, jingle or drop is played. either by reading an attribute or using a dedicated player.

I think this would be a good feature to have

Sounds like a job for Cad’s infamous IVT script…

 It’s called IVP (Processor, not Tracking).

But yes, it can do that. HOWEVER, you have to process the playlist using IVP before you play it. It can’t duck on-the-fly in the way you suggest. To do that, you would have to use the Mix Editor and draw an envelope. If you’ve ever used audio mixing software, you’ll be right at home. 8)

Not even if we used a dedicated player for the jingles.

that is a tad disappointing I will have to think of some other way of getting around it

Thanks anyway

Not even a dedicated player will do it. All IVP does is add envelopes, same as you could do manually. There’s no ‘magic bullet’ within mAirList for ducking automatically.

Hi

I’m not sure if this is exactly what you want, but there may be a way.
Pick a jingle or sweeper and open it’s properties in mairlist dB. On the playback tab enter an “execute command” in the actions on start e.g. Player 1-1 Volume -20. In the actions on Stop add Player 1-1 Volume 0

This works

True, that does dip the specified player, but the problem is that it sounds like someone throwing a switch.

Even a fast dip needs to sound like a fade of some sort, and not like someone going >click<… >click<, if you see what I mean?

Of course, if that’s OK for your station, then yes: go for it!

I offered this as a means to achieve the original request.
I would never dream of actually using it!!!

I was redoing my mAirList tags so now I am sending all the songs into Adobe Audition and changing the volume.

Ok so its not going to dip but any imaging will be heard over the song.

You could also use mp3 Gain and reduce the perceived volume without physically having to change the file in Adobe http://mp3gain.sourceforge.net/. It reduces the output volume of the file.

With the 5.0 Beta out I would like to bring this back up as a feature request

To dip the song when station imaging is played be it by setting a attribute on the data file or by having its own player

I really think this would work well as I know other broadcast systems have that feature
