I am having some problems with mAirList and my soundcard that I cannot seem to overcome.
After several hours of operation, the next playlist item is loaded and apparently playing, but the progress indicator stops and the player does not count down. Stopping mAirList and starting it again enables me to operate mAirList for several hours until the problem re-occurs.
My sound card is the M-Audio Delta 1010LT – and I am aware of common problems with M-Audio cards. However, solutions suggested here for that type of problem do not fix it.
I have experimented with all kinds of settings for buffer length, software mixing etc. (everything BASS that is) — no change.
I use one of those sound cards and when I first installed it there were a few issues.
Which driver and panel version are you using? I have driver 5.10.00.0048 and panel version 1.03.26 - 2.6.00. The driver that was sent with the card was not the right one to use. If you have a different version just go to their website to download the correct one.
Also under the hardware settings tab you need to make sure the multi track devices are set to independent (for multi player use) with a latency of 256.
The patchbay tab needs to have all set to default of wavout.
The monitor mixer tab needs to have all channels set to stereo link. And ofcourse don’t forget to set the correct outputs in the mairlist configuration.
I’m by no means an expert but maybe this will help a bit. It’s a great sound card, the only downside is that the numbers on the plugs are a pain to read…
Thanks Mike. I will play around with the panel. It’s the latest version from their website running on the playout computer… let’s see if that brings success.
As for “a pain to read”— that’s a euphemism. It’s pretty much impossible to read the embossed numbers… but hey, I love spending time under my desk with a flash lite… who doesn’t?
Is this a driver version with or without the famous “Multitrack driver devices” option?
I think you need a driver that still (or again) has that option, and set it to “independent”, otherwise the players won’t start. That’s a known issue for that card. In the default “single and in-sync” setting, the first device (player) won’t start to play until the second device (player) is started as well.
M-Audio removed that setting from the control panel a while ago. They promised to bring it back, but I’m not sure if they did. I don’t known such a card.
There is no driver available for Windows 7 (64) that supports this option. Both drivers available on their website don’t have that option. There is no beta driver available at the moment either, so I doubt there has been any development towards bringing that option back.
The sound card works just fine for about 6-8 hours, and then it stops working until I restart mAirList — which seems to fix it for another 6-8 hours. Surprisingly enough though this problem has developed only in the last couple of weeks, initially it worked just fine.
ASIO still doesn’t work. This is what I get at startup:
“mAirList Radio Automation System funktioniert nicht mehr - Ein Problem hat die richtige Ausführung dieses Programms verhindert. Schließen Sie das Programm.”
(I’m using a German locale for my Windows 7 setup)
The message appears either before mAirLists’s splash screen pops up, or immediately after the splash screen appears.
Second attempt (with ASIO), this time after downgrading to the an earlier driver version.
This time… mAirList starts and freezes while splash screen is still visible (playlist in the background not yet visible, but other UI elements initialized).
I’m watching this carefully, as one user has already reported Win7 64bit and the 1010LT card works fine (see hardware thread), and I’m about to embark on this path by wiping my XP box soon.
Probably won’t be until next week so will let you now how I get on.
Also application-level software mixing? That will keep the device busy all the time, sending zero samples when no player is active. Make sure to set the buffer to a reasonably low value to avoid latency.
Whilst this isn’t a scientific test I just recently upgraded my beast to Windows 7 64bit (SP1) and used the latest 1010LT drivers. I ran mAirlist on Sunday for 12 hours, with 6 hours streaming using the integral encoding method. All behaved, no signs of issues and stream was clean at end with no clicks and bangs.
As said, not scientific and certainly not conclusive. No changes to default setup.
