pfl-ing

Warm Vybz to all I am just testing mAirlist from my laptop i sondcard realtec, when I press pfl icon in the corner
of player marked next nowt happens. is this because i need to assign Players to a seperate sound card. When I mAirlist operating thru a desk will I have to assign each player to a seperate source. If so how, had a brief look in configureration could only get to playlists not players

Welcome to mAirList, Chris!

Do you mean that a) the PFL dialog does not open, or b) the PFL dialog opens and plays, but you don’t hear anything through your soundcard?

No: it’s because you need to assign the PFL output for each Player to a sound card. ;D That said, all Players’ outputs, including their PFL outputs, should default to your default Windows wave output device (a.k.a. default sound playback device/sound card). For evaluation on a laptop, I’d suggest you ensure that all Players, Cartwall, PFL players, etc., etc. are routed to your laptop’s sound card output.

It depends. If like most people you want each Player on a separate channel of the desk, then yes: you will have to assign each Player to a separate sound card output pair on the PC, so that you can cable each output up to a separate desk channel stereo line in. If for example you are using a 5.1 type card like an SB128, you typically have three sound output pairs, which you can then cable up to three separate desk channels. In mAirList Configuration, you assign (for example) Player 1, Player 2, and the Cartwall to those three pairs on the sound card. Note that in this case, you would ALSO assign each Player’s PFL output to the SAME sound card output pair as the Player’s ‘main’ output, so that you can PFL each Player through its normal desk channel. Ideally your desk’s PFL button will trigger an output ‘switch’ signal which you can connect back to the PC (via gameport interface for example) and in mAirList Configuration, Control section, you can assign that switch signal to put (for example) Player 1 into PFL mode, or toggle Player 1 PFL mode (it depends on how your desk’s PFL output signals work).

In Configuration, expand (click the + sign) a Playlist to get to the settings for each of its Players; the Cartwall has separate settings; so does the Extra PFL player (which is used for File Tagger AND when you PFL an item in a Playlist by right-clicking it and selecting PFL).

[mAirList Rule #1: EVERYthing is configurable!]

I hope that helps you meantime, Chris. Please post again in this thread if we can be of further help: we’re a friendly bunch!

Seriously though: welcome to mAirList, Chris; and you mayfind it helpful to check out the existing forum content and also the mAirList Wiki pages (admittedly some of the latter are a tad out of date, though).

But if you can’t find the answers there, then please do just ask and between Charlie, Tony, myself and of course the stellar Herr Weibert himself, I’m sure we’ll be able to help!
