Moving Automation Systems to Mairlist

Hi there,

I wonder if someone can shed some light on this for me.

If I was to move automation systems to Mairlist from SAM Broadcaster. I would want to import all my songs into the marliest database so I can adjust intro points etc…

I realize I can have the SAM Broadcaster Database accessed by Mairlist to get gain Intro Points from this, but ideally I would like all these songs from my Sam Broadcaster database into Mairlist database so its all centralized and I can easily adjust intro points and information regarding the track.

The Issue I have, is I use Powergold Music Scheduling which has every song in it I need and does brilliant scheduling. The file location of my current files could be for example eg. F:\My Documents\Music\December 2011 etc…

If I was to import every song into the Mairlist database it would want to copy these files to my a Mairlist storage drive which would then be like \SERVER\music\songname.mp3. This meas I would need to go through every song in Powergold and change the file location which is HUGELY time consuming.

Is there away to import songs into the Mairlist database without moving the file location of the current song, so not to break the power gold database??

Cheers,
Ethan

You could just add a storage for the My Music folder in mAirListDB, and use the Synchronize dialog to scan it. There is no need to start a brand new audio folder for mAirList, it can easily work on existing folders.

If you want to import the cue points etc. from SAM Broadcaster, set up your mAirListDB first, add all files to them (make sure the file names and paths are the same as in SAM), then create a CSV dump of the SAM database (I’m not sure where you do that, but there’s a tool for that in SAM somewhere), and then go to mAirListDB -> Database -> Import and select that CSV file. mAirList will go through all files listed in the CSV file, check if the file is registered in the database already, and if so, copy all metadata from the CSV file into the database, overriding the current/default metadata.

But even with subfolders?

Heres an example of what I’m trying to get at: In my current music library physically I have my files in this arrangement on my hard drive.

My Music:
December 2009

January 2012
February 2012
March 2012
etc…

In Powergold (Music Scheduling Software) I have a each song with the filepath eg. F:\My Music\December 2009\songname.wav

How would I Import all my library into Mairlist Database and not physically move the files so I do not need to alter anything in my Powergold database. The file paths remain the same. Would I need to create a “storage” for every single sub directory inside my My Music folder?

Oooo I see what you mean. With the CSV import function you could import all the data into the Database without moving the original file location, is this correct?

I’ve just tried that and SAM will export the CSV contents as below:

eg.

“ID”,“filename”,“diskID”,“flags”,“songtype”,“status”,“weight”,“balance”,“date_added”,“date_played”,“date_artist_played”,“duration”,“artist”,“title”,“album”,“label”,“pline”,“trackno”,“composer”,“ISRC”,“catalog”,“UPC”,“feeagency”,“albumyear”,“genre”,“website”,“buycd”,“info”,“lyrics”,“picture”,“count_played”,“count_requested”,“last_requested”,“count_performances”,“xfade”,“bpm”,“mood”,“rating”,“overlay”,“playlimit_count”,“playlimit_action”,“songrights”,“date_album_played”,“date_title_played”,“adz_listID”
“28345”,“F:\Music\January 2012\Rihanna Ft Jay Z-Talk That Talk.wav”,“0”,“NNNNNNNNNN”,“S”,“0”,“5”,“395.917014160153”,“19/01/2012 8:33:53 p.m.”,“19/03/2012 12:21:01 a.m.”,“19/03/2012 12:21:01 a.m.”,“207563”,“Rihanna Ft Jay Z”,“Talk That Talk”,"","","",“0”,"","","","","",“0”,"","","","","","",“230”,“0”,“1/01/2002 12:00:01 a.m.”,“0”,"&i=11000&o=206000&ct1=88000",“0”,"",“0”,“no”,“0”,“none”,“broadcast”,“19/12/2011 2:02:12 a.m.”,“19/03/2012 12:21:01 a.m.”,“0”

But unfortunately when I go Import in the Mairlist Database. It doesn’t error but it just doesn’t actually add into the Library.

Any ideas?

To answer your first question, yes: subfolders of a Storage are handled fine, and that is incidentally nothing to do with the CSV import.

As Torben said, you create a Storage pointing to your top-level folder and run a Synchronise to add all the files to mAirListDB before running the CSV import. The CSV import does not add files to mAirListDB; it simply replaces any cue points etc.; so the files must already exist in mAirListDB before you do the CSV import.

So if you haven’t already done so, create the Storage first, then run a Synchronise to add the entries for the files to mAirListDB, then run your CSV import.

Ahhh I see!

Thanks!

I’ve just tried that however with the below SAM4 CSV export, I have synchronized the folders already

I get a error “Invalid Item”. Any ideas?

Perhaps the CSV format is a little different from the one implemented in mAirList. I will check that.

Do the lines in the CSV file ‘wrap’ as shown in your post, or does each item show as one single line if you open the file in (say) Notepad and switch Word Wrap OFF?

Incidentally, did you know you can simply Open a Powergold ‘automation’ file (.ptm file) as a Playlist in v4.x? You don’t need to create an M3U to be able to open it in mAirList.

The “Invalid item ID” bug should be fixed in the new snapshot build 1435.

However, I see that the columns in the CSV differ from what is currently implemented in mAirList. In the current implementation, the “date_album_played” and “date_title_played” columns come after “date_played”:

“ID”,“filename”,“diskID”,“flags”,“songtype”,“status”,“weight”,“balance”,“date_added”,“date_played”,“date_artist_played”,“date_album_played”,“date_title_played”,“duration”,“artist”,“title”,“album”,“label”,“pline”,“trackno”,“composer”,“ISRC”,“catalog”,“UPC”,“feeagency”,“albumyear”,“genre”,“website”,“buycd”,“info”,“lyrics”,“picture”,“count_played”,“count_requested”,“last_requested”,“count_performances”,“xfade”,“bpm”,“mood”,“rating”,“overlay”,“playlimit_count”,“playlimit_action”,“songrights”,“adz_listID”

In your file, they’re near the right end:

“ID”,“filename”,“diskID”,“flags”,“songtype”,“status”,“weight”,“balance”,“date_added”,“date_played”,“date_artist_played”,“duration”,“artist”,“title”,“album”,“label”,“pline”,“trackno”,“composer”,“ISRC”,“catalog”,“UPC”,“feeagency”,“albumyear”,“genre”,“website”,“buycd”,“info”,“lyrics”,“picture”,“count_played”,“count_requested”,“last_requested”,“count_performances”,“xfade”,“bpm”,“mood”,“rating”,“overlay”,“playlimit_count”,“playlimit_action”,“songrights”,“date_album_played”,“date_title_played”,“adz_listID”

I’m not sure which SAM version I implemented it for back then. (I have never had SAM myself, but someone else sent me a sample CSV file.) Your version must be different. You could try to rearrange the columns in Excel or so. Otherwise some data will end up in the wrong fields.

Hmm I’ve tried rearranging in Excel as below. Still just I click Import and it just vanishes. Nothing happens.

Any ideas?

After you edited the CSV in Excel and saved it, is the format of the CSV file still the same? Comma as a delimiter, all values in double quotes? You can check in a text editor.

Hi Torben,

Good point - I checked but still not unfortunately :frowning:

Looks like a serious bug

I haven’t used the SAM import in a long time. Perhaps something broke it recently. I’ll check that.

Apart from the Artist field being ‘DRY’ for all these tracks, and that annoying m/d/y format for the date/time fields (which also contain the strings ‘a.m.’ instead of the more usual ‘am’), your export file does look all right and loads fine into Excel.

Ethan, can you use the Details button to send a bug report?

I’m unable to reproduce the issue hiere.

I just sent you a Bug Report using the in built mairlist bug report method.

 hope it helps!

Cheers,
Ethan

Ah, I see…

I think you chose the wrong file type in the Open File dialog. It must be “SAM4 Export files (*.csv)”, not “CSV files”.

Same extension, but two different import filters. mAirList cannot guess the correct type, so you have to choose it manually.

Ahh good point!

I’m finding it a pretty difficult task to move stuff around in excel.

Can we adjust the import template in Mairlist 4 to support the SAM4 CSV Export Template, this way we can just click Import

Cheers,
Ethan
