mAirList v8 – Beat mix timing problem

Hi everyone,

I have noticed one situation in mAirList v8 when mixing two elements/songs in beat.

In Database Management, I prepare a playlist/clock playlist and define a beat mix between two songs. In the Mix Editor, I move the waveform and set the exact point where the next element should continue in beat at the end of the current one.

When I preview the mix directly inside the Mix Editor, everything sounds correct and acceptable.

After that, I save the mix into the playlist/clock playlist. The problem appears when the same playlist is loaded from the database into Playout. The Playout does not seem to play the transition exactly as it was mixed in the Mix Editor. It sounds like the next element is slightly shifted, so the beat mix is no longer exactly as intended.

My impression is that the time resolution used for saving the mix points into the database may not be precise enough, or that the stored timing is rounded too much compared to the fine waveform adjustment made inside the Mix Editor.

Has anyone else experienced something similar with beat mixing in mAirList v8?

Very interesting; thank you very much for the detailed and precise description.

I’ll test it when I get the chance, as I once had a perfect transition in a webcast, too.
However, I created that in the Mix Editor within the playout, not in the database playlist. That was in v7.x a year ago.

As a workaround: would it help to put the two perfectly mixed tracks into a container afterwards? Would the mix then be preserved?

I agree. That should work even better with Container. In the standard Playout, I was already having issues with this type of transition in v7.

Could you give a clue of how much of an error appears, roughly? Thank you.

I highly recommend using a container.
It works really well for beat mixing.

I’ve been using mAirList in a test environment for a while now for a 24/7 mixed station without any problems in playout.
