Does anyone have any experience installing mAirList on Windows Server 2012 Foundation or Essentials editions? Particularly for mAirListDB really, but being able to playout would be useful too in an emergency.
Just wondered if there’s anything to consider or whether to stick to Windows 7 or 8.
We are running Multi-Instance mAirList Professional Studio on a Windows Server 2012 R2 Standard VPS. We now have 6 instances running, each with their own Soundprocessing plugin (Stereo Tool or AudioProc). Every instance streams its output either to one of our FM outlets or to our Shoutcast server in various formats (MP3, AAC, AAC-HE) and bitrates. We have room for more than 50 other instances on the same VPS. We also do our music scheduling with Music1 and mAirlistDB database editing on the same server (the PostgreSQL database engine is running on the same VPS). We access the system with Remote Desktop Protocol. Runs like a charm without any problems since several months now.
Is there an install guide to doing a server install of mAirList database?
And I assume your VPS is local, not internet?
Recently built an i5 SSD based Windows Server 2012 for a client. Dam quick machine, and possibly a little over kill for a community radio station, but the last server I built them was on a budget, and lasted 10yrs before we retired it.
Our server (actually it’s a VPS) is NOT local. It’s somewhere in a datacenter near Amsterdam and I am in Antwerp/Belgium.
I don’t remember how I did the install but it was rather straightforward I think. Had it up and running in half an hour or so. I don’t remember whether the PostgreSQL server is installed by the mAirList setup file or not. You should ask Torben about that.
Interesting, remote VPS Windows server. Had thought about doing that on a Digital Ocean droplet, but they don’t support Windows Server yet.
I suppose with the right network setup, or VPN, you could access that server from a local mAirList install. Be it a little slow, what with the latency of the link, but with a descent internet connection its not impossible.
We do everything on the VPS itself and access it with RDP with setings for hifi sound). There’s no noticable lag when setting pointers in the audio files or so. We have not tried yet to do live programming via the remote link, but I think it must be possible.
