Layout Designer?

As of .40, I have noticed a new icon in the start menu folder for mAirList called ‘layout designer’. It doesn’t launch anything, just mAirList…

Care to explain?

Ant

Hi Ant, the layout designer will launch direct from the mAirList program folder.

An example screen opens along with the layout editor.

Kind Regards Tony

I can’t seem to get this to work! Only mAirList loads.

Yes Ant, you´re right, I have the same Problem on my PC. If I click on the LayoutEditor Button in the Startmenue (or how this Menues name is in Englisch, I have a German Windows Verson on my PC), mAirList starts in a normal Window and nothing more will happen. No special Layout Editor tools. Only mAirList.

Sorry, I made a mistake in the installer script which generates the Start Menu items. The parameter must be “-designer” instead of “-layout”. You can just right click the Start Menu entry and edit the command line accordingly. I will correct the mistake with the next release.

Hi, the answer from Torben should clear things up.

Here is a peek at the editor:http://rugbyhospitalradio.org/mairlist

The LayoutDesigner.bat file is not included in the setup.exe distribution (yet), only in the .zip file. You need to adjust the Start Menu entry as described above.

Ok, it´s a Nice Tool! But it is not Idiotsave! And if you Open it, you see a Crashed Layout and not the normal Layout!
But I think the Idea of a “Layout Designer” is nice! And this tool is first at it´s beginning!

You should start off with a layout.ini file downloaded from the forum or the Wiki. When you start the designer without a layout.ini file present, the objects will have arbitrary sizes and positions (that is, Left and Top set to 0, and a random size).

As mentioned earlier, mAirList’s default layout (with no layout.ini present) is implemented using Delphi’s “Align” property (which allows you to determine the position of the objects relatively to each other) instead of fixed positions, so there are no “default values” mAirList could start with when running the designer for the first time.

To clarify this:

  • Without a layout.ini file and without the “-designer” switch, mAirList will run in “default layout” mode, in which the objects are placed using the Align mechanism.

  • When a layout.ini is present, mAirList will disable the Align feature and position the objects according to the values in layout.ini instead.

  • The “-designer” switch does also disable the Align feature and read the values from layout.ini (in case it is present, otherwise the random default values are used). The layout.ini file will be overwritten or created once you click Save in the Layout Designer.

I’d love to try this on the Vista machine at Phoenix FM - but when I’ve saved the skin.ini with mAirList running (and playing) the PC crashes leaving a trail of stuttering sound in it’s wake ;( I wonder if it’s a Vista thing or just our PC ?

Works fine on my home machine, WinXP SP2.

Hm. I don’t have Vista. Can anybody confirm this?

Oh, i like this “LayoutDesigner”, great work für fast editing of mAirList…
Maybe, there will be more options in the future? (Colors).
