[quote=“Cad, post:40, topic:5199”]>SIGH!< This is an ‘old chestnut,’ guys.
Let me repeat:
In other words, yes you can display WMAs in the Browser—as you can for any file extension—but even if you install the WMA plugin, mAirList cannot play DRM-protected WMAs (even if, say, WMP can play the same files).
This is because of the way BASS is licensed: the BASSWMA plugin will only play DRM-protected WMAs if you (i.e. Torben) own a ‘commercial’ BASS developer’s licence, which would cost an eye-watering €950. (See http://www.un4seen.com/bass.html for more details.)
In practice, this means that any WMAs ripped direct from an audio CD (and thus ‘protected’) will not be playable in mAirList. WMAs created by other non-DRM-protected means (e.g. rip to WAV, convert files to WMA later) are playable in mAirList. You are likely to face this problem (handling DRM-protected WMAs) with many programs, not just mAirList.

Erm… yeah, I understand that, Cad, however the point here is that the file I’ve tried it with is NOT DRM protected and I’m still getting the error.
Sounds like one for the Bugs forum, then; for Herr Doktor’s diagnosis.
[later] Yes, I seem to have the same problem with allegedly ‘unprotected’ WMAs here: StreamCreate Error 41.
[later still] You need the V2.3 BASSWMA.DLL (which I’ve attached), and you need it in your mAirList progfiles\plugins\bass folder. That should make everything work. The version of BASSWMA for download from un4seen is V2.4.
[even later ;)] attachment removed: see my message below for instructions to download the correct WMA add-on from the un4seen site.
Cad to the rescue! Sorry I couldn’t help here - I don’t use WMA but installed the FLAC one as I wanted to give it a whirl. A friend has his whole music library in that format so I was curious as to it’s quality
Thanks! It took me a good half hour of testing yesterday to finally deduce the correct way to do this; or indeed to use any BASS add-on.
In brief:
[ul][li]Leave all the BASS DLLs installed by mAirList in the mAirList progfiles directory (or mAirList will not open).[/li]
[li]DO NOT replace or upgrade these DLLs (or mAirList will not open, because at least one of the BASS entry point names has been changed in the latest BASS version).[/li]
[li]If you want to use any BASS add-ons or plugins, acquire the BASS V2.3 version of the DLL and place it in your mAirList progfiles\plugins\bass directory.[/li]
[li]No mAirList Config changes are needed unless you want to add ‘recognised’ file extensions to the Browser (and File Tagger ;)). Type these into the text box in mAirList Config without the leading . and separate them by spaces. For example: wma ape m4a[/li][/ul]
I’ve since also discovered that you can probably download the ‘mAirList-correct’ version of any BASS add-on by using the URL http://www.un4seen.com/download.php?bassXX23, where bassXX is the ‘download name’ of the addon. As an example: for BASSWMA, you’d use http://www.un4seen.com/download.php?basswm23. (For this reason, I’ve removed the attachment I posted earlier.) TIP: Hover over the download link for the current-version add-on to confirm its bassXX ‘name.’
It was just a sheer fluke that I’d happened to download the V2.3 BASSWMA a few months back; but I never got around to trying to use it until now!
