How do I make my WMA files available?

Dear Torben,

I have some WMA files which I would like to use with mAirList. I have downloaded the BASS WMA DLL from un4seen and have extracted the DLL into the mAirList directory.

Unfortunately, when I open a Directory browser window in mAirList, it still shows me only MP3 and WAV files. WMA files, although in the directory, do NOT show up in the list (???).

I tried REGSVR32 with BASS WMA DLL and it did not work (Cannot find BASS.DLL) [pardon?!!]. Tried REGSVR with BASS DLL and it could not find the entry point, so presumably the BASS DLLs do not need to be registered?

Is there some way to:
a) check whether or not BASS will now play WMA files?
b) include WMA files in the mAirList directory browser?

I do not have a large number of WMAs, but it would be helpful to use them with mAirList.

Apologies in advance if this is an FAQ.

You do not need to register basswma.dll with regsvr32, just follow these steps:

  1. Download basswma.dll 2.3 and place it in the mAirList directory along with bass.dll. (already done)
  2. Add “basswma.dll” to the list of plugins in the configuration dialog, page “BASS.DLL”.
  3. Add “wma” (not “.wma”) to the list of additional file extensions on the “Miscellaneous” page, so that the files will be displayed in the browsers. (The plugin DLL does not tell mAirList which file extensions it can handle, so you need to specify this manually.)

Note that mAirList will not be able to handle any DRM protected WMA files.

Thanks for your help with this. All working fine and as you say, DRM protected media does not play (?), although DRM protected media does play in Windows Media Player on the same PC, and in other software I have which I think is BASS-based (though I may be wrong about that!).

Interesting! But thanks for the help, basically it’s fine.

The BASS.DLL homepage at http://www.un4seen.com/bass.html says that “DRM support is available for commercial users”. However, I do not own a commercial BASS.DLL license, and I will (due to the licensing nature of mAirList) only obtain a shareware license. I guess that’s not included then. Raise 950€, and I will buy the commercial license
