Hooks automatic

Is it possible to implement a feature in a coming version which creates “Hooks” automatically?

OK Adriaan: given any arbitrary audio file, how would you propose to automatically set Hook points?

Automatic setting of Cue In, Cue Out, and even Fade Out cue points: yes, I can easily understand how each of those can be set by a program. But I genuinely can’t imagine how you would even start to implement such a feature for the Hook cue points, so I await your explanation with real interest.

It appears to me that in your opinion this is a very silly question. That’s possible.

Since I don’t have any clue at all how Torben is programming any part of this brilliant software (I am not a programmer), I wondered if somehow Torben is capable of programming a automatically Hook feature. Based on audio levels or something.

Your answer made clear to me this is impossible. Sorry for asking :-[

I think the problem is that Hooks are all subjective. Take the same song, you may pick a different hook to the one I would pick.

I can see how you’re thinking tho’, if there was some obvious transition in either beat or volume, but I suspect it would be a very difficult task. :slight_smile:

Must admit, I would love something that set the first ramp automatically, detected the vocal. The laziness in me would love that! Sigh, gonna be a long wait!

No, I cannot see either how such could be accomplished.

So there we are, Adriaan. I hope you didn’t think I was being rude: I just wasn’t sure how much you know about processing digital audio! ;D

streamer and Tony have summed up the problem very well; BUT this has given me an idea related to how annoying and tedious it can be to add Ramps, Outros, and yes: even Hooks and Fade Out points to tracks you have ripped from a CD.

I don’t want to discuss that idea with you all just yet: I’ll probably post in the General forum when I’ve thought it through further (and possibly, after discussing it with Torben). If it proves unworkable, I’ll reply here to say it didn’t map out.
