Hey,
A problem occured last week where the sound drivers from my laptop just randomly went missing - and when they were re-installed, they bogged the computer down to an un-useable state. So, being me, I reinstalled windows and started afresh.
All seemed fine until 10 minutes ago, when I was tagging with mAirListTag. Since I closed Tag, my system hasn’t been able to recognise the audio drivers on the computer - BUT error sounds still play and mAirList can still play it’s music. Windows volume mixer, however, insists that there are no drivers installed.
PC is a Media Center Edition brand new laptop.
I had this some time ago or something similar. In my case it was not mAirList as at the time I had still to find this:
Is the windows volume control shortcut working?
If not you can re-install this from the command line.
To resolve this issue, extract a new copy of Sndvol32.exe from the Windows XP CD to the system_root \System32 folder on your computer’s hard disk. To do this, follow these steps:
Start/Run/CMD. In the command prompt window type:
X: (where X is your CD Drive letter)
CD \I386
Then use the expand command: expand -r sndvol32.ex_ c:\windows\system32
Note: This assumes XP is installed on C: and that its installed in the Windows folder. If not, you’ll need to adjust the command accordingly. Additionally, this must be an installable version of XP, not a “recovery CD”.
If this does not work:Do an internet search for missing volume control.
Kind regards Tony
Hi,
I tried this.
On launching the mixer, I get
‘There are no active mixer devices available. To install mixer devices, go to Control Panel, Printers and Other Hardware, then click Add Hardware. This program will now close.’
Any ideas?
