I was hoping to find out how the PROPERTIES option works on music files in ASSIST mode.
I’ve been trying to work out a simple and easy way to have a song play automatically at a set time in ASSIST mode. I can do it in AUTO using EVENTS.
Have discovered that if I double click on a music file in ASSIST mode, it brings up the PROPERTIES box.
There is the option to change the timing to HARD FIXED TIME.
From my example/screenshots I set the time for 9:05 PM.
Went back to the playlist and waited. 9:05 PM clicked over and the song didn’t play automatically.
Can this be done?
Should I have another song playing for the song with the HARD FIXED TIME to start playing automatically?
I don’t think this is possible and it shouldn’t, to my believe. That’s the difference between Assist and Auto Mode.
(BTW it might be better not to show your licence number in your screenshots)
Agree to Lukeman. A fixed time and Assist mode - these are two different worlds.
Especially what he mentioned here:
… should be fixed as a “please note before adding screenshots” in all forums.
Well, a possible solution for playing a file at a special time could be an event like shown in the screenshot. There are many variations of this example.
Uli, I wouldn’t claim that this decidedly. In a decent-sized radio station in the middle of the republic there is in fact the possibility to assign elements a so-called start-on-time mode to. This makes the element shoot off at the dedicated time whatsoever. In a hardware-mixer environment motor faders are required.
So what should this be good for? Well … in the majority of cases the effects are malicious, indeed, because generally the activation happens accidentially and so you are caught on the wrong foot by the collateral damage caused by an audio going off unexpectedly. I can remember only one single reasonable application: In a (meanwhile discontinued) semi-automated programme a silent audio of some seconds was started-on-time right before top of the hour so that the title playing was (cross-)faded out right on time.
Regularly, this feature is used for non-audio elements only. It resets the backtiming tree at particular times (i.e. after the traffic information on the half-hour) to yield a better survey over the hour. But beware of assigning any audio to these elements …!
Thanks for the tip @Lukewarm, I’m still very new to mAirList and didn’t realise that was my license number. I’ll certainly keep this in mind for future screenshots.
@Uli Nobbe, I very much am excited by your proposal. As I have mentioned, when I use the event scheduler in ASSIST mode as your screenshot suggests, the song doesn’t play automatically. I notice the song will pop up on the screen and I have to press play.
Whereas, on AUTO the song will play automatically.
I’d love an easy way for a song to play automatically at a fixed time in ASSIST mode.
Some may be wondering why I am asking this. ???
I always finish my shows off with a song before the news. In ZaraStudio I could have a song play automatically at a certain time, so I knew it would end on the hour and then I could play the news.
Some may think that this would be clunky on air. When I knew the scheduled time was approaching, I would fade the music down with the slider on the mixing desk and speak while the song started, finish my chat and then push the slider up.
