I’m having a rather annoying problem with my mAirlist installation. When I load tracks into the playlist, they get put in the player as normal. But when I start the player, the file doesn’t play. So, the player is clearly started – colours change – but the file doesn’t play. However, when I start one of the other players (with their fader down of course), stop it again and then try that first player again, the file does start playing without problems.
There is no consistency in which files have the problem. It can happen at any time, with any file. Next time I play the same track the problem might not occur. As I said, no consistency.
I do play the music over a network, rather than on the mAirlist machine and I’ve considered for a while whether that might be the problem, but obviously if it was, the file wouldn’t work after the little trick with the other player either. So I’ve discarded that idea, but it left me without any clue of what this might be.
I’m open for suggestions, because I’m grasping at straws now and next week my first radio show is going out, so I really need to be able to depend on mAirlist and that it actually starts, when pressing the hotkey.
I’ve had a look at the M-Audio Control Panel and ticked the ‘independant’ option. (It wasn’t on…) Obviously testing it is hard, because of the unpredictable nature of the problem, but every file I’ve loaded so far works. Thanks for the tip!
And you can’t use the latest drivers as they completely changed the GUI for configuration. I had to roll back, I can’t recall what version.
It was a double win though. Not only did it make audio from mAirList stable, but also fixed an issue in Adobe Audition where it would intermittently distort the audio on recording. (And you didn’t know that until you stopped and played it back :-[ )
For those of us from the TV world, it comes as no surprise. Avid does tend to break things with upgrades ???

Not that I was planning to upgrade right now, but I probably would in future, so I’m glad you said that. I’m currently using the drivers/software that came with the 1010LT, which luckily still had the option in the config. So, after your warning, I’m going to keep this just the way it is.
I have continued testing, loading songs and jingles in the respective players that I’d never loaded before and played them. So far, none of them have gone wrong, so it’s looking good!
I forgot to mention but you kinda did in your last post, but the newer drivers have removed that independent option from the GUI. There were quite a few complaints on the M-Audio 1010 forums about that.
I can imagine. That is really ridiculous. But as long as I stick to the drivers I’ve got I should be alright. I’ve been continuously testing since my last posting. Not 1 file had the problem. Everything is playing perfectly, so that must’ve been the solution. Which is fab! Thanks for all the help!
Regarding the old Delta 1010 drivers with the Independent option still present, can someone please report what’s the latest version that is still working, and where I can get it?
I’m enquiring this on behalf of a customer who is running Windows XP 32-bit.
I have tried (and was using) the driver that came with the card. As my last available channel has now failed too, I’ve removed the card from the playout pc, as I still need to work of course. Because of this I can no longer check which version it is. It was a v5, I know that much, but the rest…?
When I upgraded to 6.0.2_5.10.0.5074 (downloaded from the M-Audio web site) the independant option disappeared, as predicted, and it took a little while, but player 1 then did refuse to start. So I rolled back to the 5 and everything worked again
Since version 5 is no longer available from M-Audio, I don’t think it would be a problem if I posted it here, so there you go:
Thanks for your help and the file, very appreciated.
I saw that M-Audio is offering a v5 driver when you click “show older releases” on the driver page (looks like they are aware of the problems with the newer driver). I assume that’s the same as you uploaded? (I’m on a train right now so I cannot check it.)
I had completely missed that on the site. Yes, I think it’s the same, but either way, the older version offered on the M-Audio web site still has the ‘independant’ setting.
By the way, if I remember correctly, I think I downloaded the “older version” from the M-Audio site first and it did not have the option anymore. I’m not sure though.
