I was experimenting last night with the Encoder config, and discovered that it is a very useful feature for the rare moments I go live, and have a couple of questions.
What are the default parameters sent to LAME? I experimented trying to improve quality such as adding -h in the command box but was wondering, what gets sent by default (apart form the bitrate and server details).
Also, on the Encoder config, I see a Playback Device and Record Device. Exactly what do these options do. To my way of thinking, Record Device is the one that picks up the audio and pipes that to the encoder, but am I right?
As the extra options are inserted at the end of the command line, you can use them to override any of the default settings.
The record device is the one that used for the live feed, that is, that is recorded from when you click the LIVE button. The live feed signal is mixed with the signal from those players for which the output device is set to “Encoder”.
The playback device is the sound card that the master signal from the encoder is output to. You can set it to “no local output” if you use your mixing desk to monitor the master signal, or when you use a PC that does not have a sound card, e.g. an unattended server.
I have the players all feeding a mixer, various channels via a Delta 1010LT. The output then feeds the 1010LT inputs 1/2. So, then I set playback to “No Local Output”, and the Record to “Delta 1/2”, then I’m golden.
