Is there an option to see in realtime how long the streaming encoder is connected to the server in mAirlist? (minutes, hours)
Second question…
Since a while i use LUFS normalization for my stream in combination with Stereotool soundprocessing. Is there a loudness standard for the output of live streams? I know services like Spotify etc. use a standard loudness but is there also a market value for live streams? I hope you guys understand what i mean? Below are my settings.
I don’t think there is a general standard for this. Some do it this way, others do it completely differently. You can ask your own “well-being” and see what suits your program.
I can only say: I have it exactly like the settings shown here and have done pretty well with it so far.
Well, there should be a standard, but actually it is a non-obligatory recommendation:
The EBU R 128,
added with supplement 2 (s2)
“Loudness in streaming”
The R 128 recommends a level of -23 LUFS by regarding a ceiling of -1 dB FS (True Peak). In supplement 2 it allows -18 LUFS (first release) and now a corridor between -20 and -16 LUFS.
Regarding your screenshot, please note that possibly not all audio files will be played out with a loudness of -14 LUFS: If the True Peak would be higher than -1 dBTP, the loudness will be reduced.
Using mAirList normalization regarding R 128 there is no need to use StereoTool for that purpose; exception: You want to change the sound.
The integration of soundprocessing after normalization can alter the output level in an unexpected way and unwanted result.
I realize that using soundprocessing can alter the output level so maybe my question was not totally correct. I use the normalization of the tracks to get a good input level for Stereotool and that gives a certain output after the processing chain.
So i was wondering if there is a standard output value in DB’s or LUFS for live streams like there is the Stokkemasker for FM stations in The Netherlands. When i listen to streams from Dutch radiostations i hear so much difference in output levels.
The same in Germany, unfortunately.
Regarding FM, the provider or a state agency may give you technical restrictions.
In webcast, there is no technical restriction. Some people agree to this freedom, other do not like the new loudness race in streaming resulting from this.
Yes, that is what bothers me a bit that there are no restrictions. When you zapp through a list of webradiostations you keep adjusting the volume when listening. Even the professional stations here in NL have very different output volumes/loudness on their streams.
So i thought if i do a broadcast myself, i want to do it the correct way but there is no correct way
