cue editor problem new tracks

Today I have something weird what I never had before.

I have synchronised my music folder and the new songs i’ve added were found.
now when i am going to cue editor to set all the marks, somthing is going wrong
the wave is not corresponding to the audio.
When the song is still playing, the wave is done.
And the most anoying. it isn’t possible to place the markers right where i want them.
When looking at the wave, i have to place the markers in very strange positions.
Also when placing the marker in the good position by listening to the song… it isn’t at the position I want. When i press test, the audio is not at the point where i have set my marker… but someweher else in the song.
This way it is impossible to import new songs and get the markers where needed so they will be played well in the software.

I have just updated from version 6.1 build 3878 to build 3885 (the latest) and this problem stays.
For now I have restarted the pc. even I have replaced the audiofile with a new copy of it. The problem stays.
It is only at the newly added songs, the old songs in the database seem to work correctly…

What can it be?

Are these VBR or CBR files?

Does the correct waveform appear when you click the Reload button in the Cue Editor toolbar?

the files are mp3 (yes i know… )
after reload the waveform is the same.

It seem like the audio is slower then the waveform marker.
in the beginning it looks sync, but in the end there is a difference of about 3 seconds…

Go to config -> Audio Settings -> General, check “Force high precision cueing for VBR files (BASS_STREAM_PRESCAN)”

Does this resolve the problem?

Hi torben,

This solved the problem for sure!
may I ask what the reason could be? perhaps to low buffer on the pc?

anyway thanx for your fast and clear help!

VBR (variable bitrate) files. Every MP3 frame has a different bitrate. Makes it impossible to precisely jump to a particular position by plain “rule of three” calculation (file position = audio position * bitrate).

Said option will make BASS scan the entire file and build a map whenever you open it. Works around the problem, but opening files will be much slower.

Bottom line: Avoid VBR files whenever you can.
