Browser on players

Is it possible to hide folders on the player browser but still have them in the database so we can populate the folders with files we use on hour schedules.

Hello-

If I understand your question, yes, you can hide folders but still have them available in the database. Could you explain a little more :wink:

Sorry its taken a while to respond.

Basically we have many folders for different items such as a folder for all our adverts, one for a list, one for b list, one for c list, one for imagaing, one for unlisted music, ETC.

The presenters don’t need to see half the folders as many are only required for automation when no-one is in the studio. I.E overnight . As some contain content that isn’t required I was hoping that on the database explorer tab in the browser on the play if it was possible to hide some of these folders E.G Adverts. I don’t mind that the content can still be searched for though, although if it is possible to stop them showing in the database search let me know. Thats non essential.

Thanks for responding sorry again i haven’t been online to check recently.

Hello-

Okay, I see what you’re asking. You wish to hide folders in the browser. If that could be done, it would been done, most likely, by adding to the skin.ini file.

Unfortunately, I’m fairly confident that it can not be done. However, someone else might know of a skin.ini entry that would get that task done. Hopefully, someone else will weigh in.

Sorry that I wasn’t more help >:(

Cheers, Alec M

If you mean ‘can some parts of the database be hidden in the Database Explorer in the Browser?’ then the answer is, I’m afraid, no. The Database Explorer is ‘all or nothing,’ as far as I know. If it’s showing, you see everything in the Database.

To do what you want would basically need a change to the mAirList database schema to add a binary (or bit in some database dialects) field, associated with an on-screen checkbox or similar for every Virtual Folder in the database (selected by default), which when selected means: Show this folder in the Database Explorer. So that would basically be a feature request.

However, if you mean ‘can I stop (real!) folders showing as items in the mAirList Browser?’ then yes you can.

[ol][li]Close any unwanted folder items etc. in the Browser, and add any items you want to be there.[/li]
[li]Click Save, Save Desktop to save the mAirList Desktop: which includes the current Browser contents.[/li]
[li]Close mAirList.[/li]
[li]Add the following lines to the Browser section of your skin.ini file:
[Browser]
ShowAdd=off
ShowClose=off
then save the file.[/li]
[li]Open mAirList and confirm the Add and Close buttons have gone from the Browser Toolbar. Then click Open, Open Desktop and open the MLD (desktop) file you saved earlier.[/li][/ol]

As usual, I’ve completely forgotten the name of the default MLD file that mAirList opens at startup (again, Torben, again!). I’m sure someone else will here shortly to remind me.

Anyway, the principle is that you set up the Browser exactly as you want it, save as an MLD file, then remove the Add and Close buttons so that no-one can mess with it without real effort. Simples!
