I’ve been using ASIO as standard for all audio output, but when trying to use Configuration or Database apps when the main playout is running, I get an error.
I know this is down to ASIO being used exclusively by whatever app is using it, as I experience the same issue with Adobe Audition and other playout software. In that instance I set Audition to use WASAPI instead of ASIO.
I attempted to solve the issue by setting all but the Player 1 and Player 2 (and Carts plus Aircheck and Encoder) to use WASAPI, but I still get the same error.
Is the only solution to use WASAPI for all audio in mAirList, and abandon ASIO? Is WASAPI good enough to provide rock solid (faultless) audio?
I didn’t get an answer for this, but after a week of using WASAPI I can say it works perfectly, not faults to report. My preference is ASIO, but in this situation I had to use WASAPI for all devices.
Perhaps in the future if I have a separate workstation to do database and voice tracking on, I’ll switch back to ASIO.
I was told to use first asio then wasapi en last directsound but asio give’s all kind of error so I just sins I got mairlist wasapi.
Last week I got an frees in the system noting reacting but the music plays ,so wasapi work’s good for me
WASAPI is the native audio API since Windows Vista, so you should always prefer it over the other methods if it works with your card.
That being said, in the end it depends on the quality of your sound card drivers. Most drivers work very well with WASAPI, but there are a few exceptions where the WASAPI/WDM part is buggy, and the ASIO drivers are more stable, most notably the M-Audio Delta series.
I’m using a Delta 44 both in the Playout system, and my work station. We also use them in 5 other studio’s and I’ve not come across any major issues with WASAPI and Delta devices, at least not under Windows 7 Pro.
I’m planning an upgrade to my audio devices this year in my studio, and will most likely move away from M-Audio in favor of Focusrite. For some reason M-Audio doesn’t produce much in the way of internal audio cards these days, and there external stuff isn’t as good as Focusrite.
The Delta 1010 seems to be worse. There is even a reference to a known problem about “audio suddenly stopping when applications use standard Windows output” in the release notes of the latest drivers.
