I’m trying to import some AIFF files, but they seem to fail every time with the following error:-
At first I thought this might be just due to a particular selection of files, but then I tried it on a completely different batch in a totally different folder, and it repeated the error again.
The files themselves play work perfectly in mAirList when you drag the file, or selection of files, into the player window. But when importing into the database, it just seems to fail.
Could you also add the extension aiff to the import list, as both aif and aiff are valid extensions for the AIFF Format Sound file type. Traxsource sells AIFF files with this extension.
The change in b2786 is only for the *.aiff (with two F) files, so they are displayed in the browser etc., no need to add this to the “extra file extensions” list anymore.
I have not encountered any errors when I worked with the files you sent me. Do you get the same error when you add the files manually to the playlist?
As an update on this issue Torben, I’ve updated to the latest snapshot build (5.1.4 Build 2790) and the issue continues, AIFF and AIF files still won’t import.
Does this mean there is no support for AIFF/AIF? Or is this another issue.
What do you mean by “do not import”? Does not read the ID3v2 tags in the AIFF files?
As mentioned in the other thread, I am unable to add support for ID3v2 inside AIFF, because the ID3 library I am using does not support the particular file/tag layout (ID3 at the end of the file rather than the beginning).
I’ve attempt to hunt down what process is using the files, but my results return mAirList.exe.
If that is the only process using the file, then how can it be preventing the file from being imported?
For the sake of argument I also disabled my anti-virus, but the problem seems to persist also when I import a file at a time. However MP3’s import fine.
Matt,
I have had problems with .aiff files in other software, and came to the conclusion that it depended of what software was used to save the file originally. Just my observation and may not be your problem
I long ago took the view that as my music was only going across a internet stream, I did not need great quality, so stuck with MP3 @ 320mbs. I do however do all audio editing with Audition in .WAV
In this case these AIFF files came from Traxsource, but there is also one or two in the selection that are converted WAV files using dbpoweramp.
Audition, or Cool Edit Pro in its former life, is an industry stand in broadcasting, and I have been using it myself since the 2000. Currently I’m on CS6, but these files weren’t created in Audition.
As a further test, I attempted to import a WAV file that was recorded in Audition into the system, it also failed. That file is not a converted file, it is an original WAV file recording.
I then converted one of the AIFF files to WAV using dbpoweramp, and again that converted WAV file failed to import.
I would like to mention that the system is a clean Windows 7 Pro installation. No additional codec or programs outside of mAirList 5.1.4 Build 2790, Audition CS6, Advanced Time Synchronizer, and AVG Antivirus free edition. In a previous post on this thread I mentioned that disabling AVG and its resident shield has not effect.
Matt,
I have imported Aiff files into mAirlist without problems (v5.1.2 build 2774) These had been edited and saved in Audition CS6, so Im unsure why youre having problems. Perhaps there is a mismatch with attributes between AIFF and mAirlist. Im not a coding junkie so I cant help further.
