Wiki: cannot upload files

Torben: according to the Special Page that should allow file uploads, this has been disabled.

It would be helpful to be able to upload graphics and screenshots to help reduce the amount of descriptive text needed; also to illustrate concepts like cue points, and how they are used in practice within mAirList.

Given the recent ‘SPAM attack’ on the Wiki, and with my System Administrator hat on ;), I suggest that Wiki file uploads are (if possible):

  • restricted to registered Wiki users
  • files which are less than a fixed size (maybe ~200KB or so?)
  • graphic file types only (perhaps .PNG and .BMP initally?)

I don’t know how much control MediaWiki gives you over all that stuff, but that would the ‘ideal.’

I also wonder if the time has come to limit contributions/edits to logged-in, registered users only? Is that possible? It might at least hold spammers up for a few minutes! Better still, they might decide it’s too much effort and not try again.

Charlie (who deleted the latest spam this morning) and I have discussed the Wiki spam by PM today. Probably, the best solution is to lock the forum down for non-registered users. We ask people to create an account and log in prior to editing a page anyway, so there is no point in allowing anonymous editing. This should prevent spam as well.

Upload is now enabled. It only allows images by defaults, and warns if the file is too big. (I haven’t found out how to change the upload options, yet.)

Good ideas.

I think I must have been ‘on’ the Wiki just as you were enabling the uploads, incidentally. I noticed your test picture appear about the same time that I tried the Upload again to be sure it wasn’t working.

I did accidentally upload a picture twice, and noticed that users cannot delete images. That being the case, could you please delete the BMP version of the cart player picture I uploaded? Thanks in advance.

Please don’t delete the PNG version! That photo is on the (new) Cartwall page…

First, I need to find out how to delete images anyway  I will then also remove Jens Lehmann signing my friend Stefan’s t-shirt
