user levels

Hi Torben, I’m sure somewhere but just cannot find it there is an option for mAirList to start up in different configurations.

We need this to enable the use of differing layouts for the differing number of users.

1.Basic mode, a limited feature set i.e. no access to toolbar functions
2.Advanced mode, limited access to toolbar functions
3.Admin mode, full access to toolbar functions

I feel rather than a set of shortcuts for each mode, this could be better achieved via a multi-user management system. The option to login to the relevant mode presented on startup by user name. the user enters their password, the rights for each user assigned by an admin mode.

Pretty much how SSQ operates:

Although I believe future releases of mairList include a form of user management, is this feature set included?

Kind Regards Tony

btw: What is the switch command to start mAirList with different config/layouts?

Multi-user management is a thing to be introduced along with mAirListDB.

For the moment, you can create multiple batch files or shortcuts and use the “-configdir” command line switch:

mAirList.exe -configdir c:\mAirListConfigurations\poweruser

Note that in mAirList 2.1 the folder name may not contain any space characters.

Torben, thanks as ever for the speedy reply and news of future enhancements.

That shortcut works a treat.

Kind regards Tony

Torben

Does the -configdir method of choosing layouts still work in v3.1? I tried it last night and it didn’t appear to work (although I could have been doing something wrong!)

Also - did the ‘Multi-user management’ you mentioned above come to anything?

Cheers

Ron.

You have to use "-rootfolder " instead to choose the root data folder (which is the parent folder of the “config” folder - see the Advanced -> Data Folders config page for more information).

Multi-user capabilities for mAirListDB have been introduced in v3.1, but only for the management interface. The playout module still runs with fixed permissions.

Cheers Torben - a swift reply as always!

I looked at the Advanced -> Data Folders config page and saw the paths but obviously could not alter them. Now I know how to do it !

OK on the update of the multi-user capabilities - look forward to seeing that develop.

Ron.

The data folders cannot be edited, mAirList determines them automatically by the way it was installed:

  • With the “-rootdir” command line option present, the specified folder is used.

  • If there’s a “config” folder in the program folder, mAirList sets root data folder = program folder

  • Otherwise, a directory in the All Users profile is used.

It’s explained here: http://www.mairlist.com/blog/2009/11/improved-vista-and-windows-7-compatibility/

The config folder is always located inside the root data folder.
