Time script

Would it be possible to create a script that runs at say xx:58:30 and deletes all remaining tracks up to the Top of The Hour Dummy?

This would allow for tracks not starting at say xx:59 and move to the next hour right?

Troy

Yes, it would be possible to write such a script.

But I think you can achieve the same thing by setting a hard or soft fixed time on the first item of the hour?

Yes. But what happens if a song starts at xx:59. I want the too of the hour to start as close to the top of the hour as possible without interrupting the currently playing item. a program I uses to use had time syncs that would dump everything after xx:58:30 for exactly this reason.

Is there anyone who is well versed in scripts that would be willing to write one? I know NOTHING about writing scripts. Is it fairly easy?

You would just set the top of the hour to soft fixed time, xx:59:00.

Then the song that is playing at xx:59:00 will finish, and any other songs in between that song and the TOTH will be skipped.

Are you working with mAirListDB and Mini Scheduler? Here’s the recipe:

  • First item in the hour template is the TOTH item.

  • The trick you need to know about: Set its fixed time to 23:59:00 (= -1 minute), and timing to Soft.

  • In the playout window, set up an hourly event that runs a few minutes before the top of the hour, say at :55:00 or :58:00.

  • Don’t use the “Load and play database playlist” action. Instead, use “Append database playlist”. Also check the option “Load the playlist for the next hour (instead of the current hour)”.

Awesome. I am still using the demo version so I tend to run out of time before then but I will try that!

Thanks so much!

Welcome to mAirList!

And here’s a useful tip to remember when you are testing timed items:

You see that time-of-day clock sitting innocently at the right-hand end of the mAirList Status Bar? Double-click it. No, really: trust me! Double-click it.

Now marvel at the might of user power; as this was a user-requested feature, specifically so they could record a live-assist show ‘as live’ and still do accurate time checks. Or for voicetracking. Or, as in you case, to make testing timed items ever so much easier. One of my favourite things about mAirList is that its author is the most active person on this Forum, and is always keen to hear feature requests: but do ask first because it may already be catered for.

Change the Internal Time in there to nn:54:00 or something and you can easily test your TOH setup (several times, actually!) within your 30-minute demo period. This does not affect the real time-of-day as seen by any other application or non-mAirList window that is also open: it affects only mAirList.

Happy testing, and please do ask if we can be of any further help. In most cases, questions about mAirList are not so much “can it do … ?” because the answer is usually “Yes!” and the question then becomes “how do I … in mAirList?” to which the answer naturally varies according to the issue, as amply demonstrated by Dr. Weibert above.
