"For the time announcement, create a folder in mAirListDB and put all 12 audio files into it. Then open the Properties dialog for each item, go to the Scheduling (older versions: Database) tab, and in the hour restriction grid, uncheck all hours but the one (well, two) that this file represents. For example, for the “2 o’clock” file, check all days in the 2 and 14 hour lines, and uncheck all others. (You can click the row/column headers to speed this up.)
When you’re done with that, you can simply use a “random item from folder” item, and the scheduler will “magically” pick the correct one each hour."
Could someone, please, explain me how to simply use a “random item from folder”,please? I’ve been looking everywhere here, on the software as well on the Online user manual (version 3.1) and I couldn’t find.
Not sure which Time Announcements you mean. Top of the Hour, every hour, seems logical?

This refers to the database playlist, which are generated by the Mini Scheduler. In the mAirList version 3.1 User Manual: Section 11.5.2 Creating Database Playlist and Section 11.5.3 Using the Mini Scheduler.
When you create a playlist. but Time Announcement on top. See attachment.
When you check “Expand variables in URL/filename” in the playback options for the item, you can type the filename as “C:\somewhere%h%m.mp3”, and it will automatically expand to “C:\somewhere\1255.mp3” (12:55 hours) at the time of the playback.
Also consider checking “Do not prebuffer”, and also “use a single player in automation mode” (mAirListConfig -> Playlist -> Playlist 1 -> Options), to prevent a wrong version being buffered while the preceding audio item is playing.
There is no audio synthesis in mAirList however, so you have to create the xxxx.mp3 files manually, with the help of a synthesis software, or your own speech
