Span multiple hours automatically

Hello everyone,

I am running a not-for-profit ad-free stream which is playing podcasts and hosts live shows.

I want to switch to mAirList, and am busy learning.

I have read the Music Scheduling tutorial, but what I would like to use mAirList for is to generate playlists that span multiple hours.

The duration of podcasts varies a lot. They can be 30 minutes, to 3h15m. So what I would like is this:

  • Start of the hour: Random station-ID jingle
  • Random podcast (full play, so, one hour or multiple hours)
  • Music until the next full hour

A practical example

  • 12:00:00 Station-ID jingle
  • 12:00:15 Start of The No Agenda Show
  • 15:11:25 Fill with music
  • 16:00:00 Station-ID jingle
  • 16:00:15 Start of the Randumb Thoughts Podcast
  • 16:44:23 Fill with music
  • 17:00:00 Station-ID jingle

Question 2: Is it possible to PAUSE a show, do a station-ID jingle at the top of the hour, and RESUME the podcast?

  • 12:00:00 Station-ID jingle
  • 12:00:15 Start of the No Agenda Show
  • 13:00:00 Pause No Agenda, play Station ID
  • 13:00:15 Resume No Agenda (maybe rewind 20 seconds?)
  • 14:00:00 Pause No Agenda, play Station ID
  • 14:00:15 Resume No Agenda (maybe rewind 20 seconds?)
  • 15:00:00 Pause No Agenda, play Station ID
  • 15:00:15 Resume No Agenda (maybe rewind 20 seconds?)
  • 15:11:25 Fill with music
  • 16:00:00 Station-ID jingle
  • 16:00:15 Start of the Randumb Thoughts Podcast
  • 16:44:23 Fill with music
  • 17:00:00 Station-ID jingle

Hope this is possible. Thanks!
Mark

@Torben could you help me with this, please?

@Problem1: I do not see the difficulty yet. In the fill with music-part you put into as many titles as would be enough to buffer even the shortest podcast. Is it that you would have too many TOTH jingles in the way if the podcast is longer than 60 minutes?

Guessing regards

TSD

The difficulty I think, is that when I generate playlists, the end of the hour always marks the end of the podcast. So podcasts that are longer than an hour get cut off. So when I press ‘generate playlist’, with a 3 hour podcast, I get:

  • 6:00:00 TOTH jingle
  • 6:00:15 start of the podcast
  • 7:00:00 TOTH jingle
  • 7:00:15 different podcast

“Hour” templates can actually span more than 60 minutes. So just create a “long” template and leave the subsequent hours empty in the assignment.

Pausing items and inserting jingles doesn’t work, sorry.

Thanks @Torben I understand. I have thought long and hard about this, but I’m thinking that this specific use case I have is unsupported. So the best way for us to do this is to make the playlists by hand, once or twice a week. Generate is useful for short items, but if items MAY span multiple hours, there is no real way to do this intelligently by using the generate function.
