Songs with the same title almost back to back

While listening in my car on my way to the snow , I noticed two songs with the same title within the same hour.
I thought the part between the square brackets was ignored by the scheduler.
Title separation is at least 6 hours and there are plenty of songs in the virtual directory.

Could you have a look at this one of these days Torben. Might be a bug? Thanks

Hey Lukeman,

I noticed a similar problem in the german forum a few days before:

The problem is that a) the title has no “Rihanna feature” that separates infos like “(live)” or “[remix]” and b) title is, opposite to artist, case-sensitive (as I figured out in the linked post).

I think it is not a bug but not fully recognized to date.
In the years before many webcasters cleaned their database so that there was one title only one time available (like some djs did it).

Additionally, in your case, both titles seem to be in the same (virtual) folder.
It could be possible that Torben / mairlist proposes to have the titles in different folders - the live version in another one.

What you describe here was not planned for automation in the years before.
The titles, their multiple covers or remixes released within one or two years increased in the last decade rapidly.

Thanks for your reply Uli,
I appreciate what your saying but the part in between the square brackets is supposed to be ignored.

As the titles are completely similar, in my opinion the title separation should kick in.

Hey thanks - haven’t seen that before. Looks great!

However, I read the Changelog:

[-] DB: Scheduler: Parts in square brackets [] are ignored when calculating
title separation, allows for different versions of same song to be
    separated correctly

… and, maybe the the term “same song” (!) means the combination of title and artist, but not same named songs of different artists?

Yeah you’re right there. Rather interesting though. Looking forward to Torben’s thoughts on this.

I’m of the opinion that this should be reduced to „same title“ optionally. If I have played Help by the Beatles before, I do not want to listen to the same song by Bananarama half an hour later.

Separated regards

TSD

I agree with Tondose, that’s why the Mini Scheduler has artist, song and title separation.
You don’t want to hear Jingle Bells at the Holidays three times per hour.

But in my example (first post) the title separation didn’t work, looks like the part in between the square brackets is not ignored.

Torben I know you must be busy, but could you have a look at this one of these days?

Checked the code. Actually the [] part should be stripped. Can you please enable the debug log and look for the “Fetching titles” and then “Last use:” part, whether they are listed with or without the bracket part?

OK, just tested it, as you can see in the screenshot, the songs are listed with the bracket part.
At present I’m using mAirlist 6.1.10 build 3944.

Take a look at my club night rotation tonight. The log looks like it’s working, isn’t it?

001781 6/432: ID 7903, artist "Seamus Haji feat Kayjay", title "Last Night A DJ Saved My Life [Haji & Emanuel Radio Edit]"

001781 Title separation for "Last Night A DJ Saved My Life" is 3523

Btw, “feat” without a following dot is ignored, too.
Seems I have to update some of my database entries.

Well, they are listed with [brackets]:

Is this helpful?

Strange, I just put Follow Rivers (3 different versions) in my High Rotation and it looks like the calculation goes well.
I just don’t get it why on the 11th of March two different versions were aired within the same hour. Nothing has changed since.

You’re looking in the wrong place… Not in the “Items in this folder” section, but further up under “fetching titles… Last use”:

Torben, you’re right. No [brackets] in the Fetching titles section:

001234 Whodunit 23.12.2018 17:00:00

… and as we can see in @UliNobbe’s posts above, also not in the “Title separation for (xxx) is …”. And that is the relevant place.

So I cannot see any bug here.

Sorry, was looking for brackets in several wrong places I guess
There are some brackets in the Fetching Titles section though, but not at the end of the titles.
Still don’t understand what happened on the 11th of March with “Follow Rivers”. Anyway, thanks for both your time and effort!

Thanks for all your efforts Torben! Really appreciated!

From now on no longer:

Snapshot - Build 3949

[*] DB: Title separation is now case-insensitive

Thank you very much! :+1:

Case sensitivity was not the root cause. It was rather that the statistics was not updated correctly ([] part not stripped) when a particular song was selected.
