Reading about the gamepad...

Hello,

I was reading one of the threads below about using a gamepad and I was thinking about it.

How much do you think it would cost to get something like a cheap gamepad and house it in a decent neat box and supply drivers required for it to work with mAirList.

If anyone starts making any for a reasonable price I would defo go for it, it would be really useful!!

2 Days ago I bought a cheap gamepad with 10 Buttons for 6 euro.
so you need 10 button (about 1-2 Euro if you need very simple buttons) and a case (about 10 Euro).
So you get it for 30-40 Euro…

In fact, someone from the German forums is working on a box like this. I will point him to this thread, maybe he can tell you about the curren status of his prototype.

Do you want somethin based on a Gamepad device?

I produced two devices like that years ago and now I am working on a control with 2 gamepads an 20 buttons!

Regards,
Kai

I guess so, if it was reliable and didnt look like a gamepad and worked like a proper customised keyboard.

Oh, you want something with keys to press? Then better get one of the customizable POS keyboards.

The gamepad solution is rather for connecting the fader/hotstart outputs of your mixing desk.

Custom/Mini playout keyboards are easy to find, look at my thread http://forum.mairlist.de/viewtopic.php?t=1568 here. eBay turns up a few POS keyboards from time to time - the 2 Tipro 64-key units I picked up were under 20 EUROS and retail for about 100. You could buy a “proper” one and re-jig it for mAirlist, but they’re pricey: http://www.psquared.net/the_myriad_keyboard.htm

Cheap solutions include those mini USB numberpads as some offer a few programmable buttons - In the German Hardware section, somebody once posted a picture of their own USB keypad which had labels on all the keys - still can’t find those in the UK :frowning:

Ok, This may be a bit far fetched, but I really hope it isnt…

…I found this on Ebay:

Perhaps this could be used and the buttons on the left could be used as mAirList Quick Buttons? Just a thought really as I could be cheap and pull off the keys, print out some labels and stick them over the original keys. Ahhh that would make life very sweet lol.

Is it possible that any keyboard with extra “Media” buttons could be used as hotkeys for mAirList?

For the small price, it may be worth a punt - but, I have a Logitech basic media keyboard on my office PC, it has E-Mail/Web/MSN/Home/Media buttons plus up/down volume control. Upon trying a key within mAirListConfig - WinAmp appeared and NO command entry was showing in mAirList… So, I guess it’s a no-go.

However, you’ll probably get a driver CD with the keyboard that may allow the keys to be replicated as keystrokes (ie: CTRL-C for Copy etc).

Hi stevo, most of the functions can be mapped to a standard keyboard. If I missed any in the config files I sent you, let me know what needs adding.

Remember though some commands may need a keystroke combination (CTRL+F1) for instance once you run out of keys.
