it depends what kind of music you are going to play. More current stuff which has been going through a hard limiter or more dynamic tracks mixed with current songs?
Well if it’s the second one, petar’s option won’t work quite well, because Sound Processing doesn’t work with EBU R128 standards. EBUR128 works with longterm analyze and Sound Processing has to react quite fast with attacks and release times to compress audio. (Peak or RMS function)
At the moment mAirlist doesn’t normalize with EBU R128 standard. As far as I remember Torben will implement this function in a new version, so we can import audio and mAirlist sets EBUR128 tags.
I’ve converted all my CDs with dBpoweramp and accuraterip aswell.
First I would recommend to convert all wavs to flac . This is a lossless audio codec which does need only 2/3 of the data size und you have much more tags to use. (mAirlist approved)
It creates new flac files (same audio and data as before) and adds a ReplayGain dB tag which is equivalent to the EBU R128 loudness standard.
The results are great and my Stereo Tool Sound Processing has been set to NOT compress too much, so you nearly have the same loudness differences before and after Sound Processing. It’s all about Input and output regulation.
