I have gone through the devices and all were ticked on show disabled and disconnected devices and also enabled. I am only using the laptop (showing +20dB boost) to try to understand the problem as it should in theory at least be simple with only 1 input and 1 output so don’t get hung up on the levels.
The options I have in mAirList under Mixer – mute/unmute are:
[ul]Device: Speakers
Destination: Master Volume (only option)
Source: (All Channels) / CD Audio / Master Volume[/ul]
or
[ul]Device: Microphone
Destination: Master Volume (only option)
Source: (All Channels) / Master Volume[/ul]
As mentioned before – using the microphone does not seem to alter anything and Speaker alters the mAirList master output only.
Using the desktop PC with onboard sound and 1010LT card provides more choices of Devices (18 in total) but they all only have one choice of Destination – Master Volume.
I can still only alter the Master Volume as it is the only destination therefore on the laptop (which only has one audio device) the only thing I can do is mute the whole of mAirList.
However … on the desktop (which has a number of destinations) I discovered that when you ‘open volume mixer’ then there is a ‘Device’ tab/area which displays the sources associated with each individual device (see attached picture).
Hence if you select Line 7/8 (M-Audio Delta 1010LT) as the device in mAirList and Master Volume as Destination and Source then it will mute/unmute the mAirList source on that channel – not the whole device (see second attached picture).
I think this is the eureka moment as I can see that this is how to automatically switch on/off the news but only if it is the only audio that comes out of a dedicated channel.
My next obvious question (which perhaps Torben can answer when he returns from his break) is why is it not possible to control the input to a channel (aux in) which is how it worked previously i.e. I can only control the playback channels not the recording side as mentioned by others. Is that a Vista/W7 thing?
This thread has certainly helped me to understand this area of mAirList and hopefully others too!
I haven’t gone through all the details of this discussion, but just a hint:
The mixer functions built into mAirList can only do what the Windows Mixer application can.
Most mid- and high-level sound cards do not use the Windows mixer API but have their own mixer application to control the volume of the individual inputs and outputs. In this case, mAirList cannot handle the channels.
Windows Vista/7 is another issue; the mixer has changed significally in that version, and sometimes you don’t see all channels etc.
I propose to look at the new “Live Feed” playlist item introduced in v4.1. This might be helpful to handle the external news feed.
Have you taken a squizz yet at yon PowerMixer thingie I suggested? Just interested as to whether that mixer will show ALL the Conexant devices, not just the ones Windows wants you to see.
Hi Ron,
I have some information for you on how to automate the news.
You will need to buy for fitting into your pc a timetools atomic clock card which comes complete with software to set up the correct time you want the pc to take the news. You also get a relay box which plugs into your pc’s usb socket. The relay box controls the switching of your news fader so as you can take the news.
Do go to this following website and have a look. The website is as below. www.timetools.co.uk
You are looking for this item, MLS MSF \ DCF-77 Computer Clock - Atomic Radio Clock PC Time Synchronisation. You also need to get this card which the relay box connects to. PCI1750, it is made by Advantech.
Hope this all helps to you being able to automate your news.
Hi Ron,
I hope this will help you solve the issue with you doing automated news. You need the following to fit in your pc. PCI-1750 which is a pci card, also, MLS MSF \ DCF-77 Computer Clock - Atomic Radio Clock PC Time Synchronisation. This is available from www.timetools.co.uk. You also get a relay box which controls the switching of your mixer’s news fader automatically.
Hope this will help.
Not sure where you are with this but would this help. How are you getting your news?
Our satellite news feed is from an off the shelf technomate satellite receiver. It has L&R analogue audio, but it also has a coax i.e. phono SPDIF digital output. I feed the analogue to a desk fader and the digital to our optimod card.
The sound card you have has a SPDIF digital input if I’m not mistaken, so could this be a way forward?
Thanks for thew further replies on the news automation front.
Alan - you solution looks expensive. We have an internet connection on the PC so sync to an on-line ntp server (time.nist.gov).
Allan - Not sure what sat receiver we have but I have the same problem switching a SPDIF input as an analogue input.
Tony - had a look at Charlie’s program but from memory that only controlled the default windows mixer output.
As I can control the outputs on the 1010LT card I think the best solution is to feed the news into inputs 7/8 and then use mAirList to switch this output which I will externally mix into the same fader input as 5/6 which we use for ads/jingles. That ‘should’ work but leads on to another question (for another thread)!
