(ft. ... ) or (feat. ...) or feat ? / scheduler

I am a happy customer from mairlist, but since yesterday i have a huge problem with the software and i have my question submitted at multiple forums.

The problem is that I hear the same numbers MANY times. The rotation at all does not go well. I’ve set in the miniplanner the following settings:

 • the track separation at 4-hour
 • title and artist on 2 hours

see also screenshots.

I have heard of someone on the forum when I had that problem before, it could be a problem with the “ft.” in the title. I have everything renamed to “feat.” so this should be OK.
What can be the problem?

i have set the ft. to feat. at this way --> Kygo (Artist) and by the title --> Born to be yours (feat. Imagine Dragons) is this correct ?

But the song i hear many times, but why?

miniplanner.png

When you put ft. Kygo or feat. Kygo in between square brackets, this part is completely ignored by mAirlist. This way e.g. “Born to be yours [Radio Edit]” and “Born to be yours” are considerd as one song and the title separation rule is applied.

First thing what comes to mind: what has changed since yesterday? Did you change the number of songs from which the Mini Scheduler picks it’s songs? If you have only some songs in say your High Rotation Directory, these songs will have to be scheduled repeatedly in order to fill your music template.

Did you change anything else in your music templates? Suppose you have set in your musictemplate that a certain song has to be from the 90’s and there are only a few songs from the 90’s in that specific directory, these songs will be picked over and over again.

Check your templates again, I don’t think it has something to do with the Scheduler itself.

Just check “Generate debug log” in the Mini Scheduler dialog, and a text file will open when scheduling is done. This file will tell you why a particular song has been picked.

You can upload the text file somewhere, give us the URL and tell us which song you think has been picked to early, and in which hour(s).

This was my first thought, too.
There is a way to create a protocol that shows what the Mini Scheduler was searching and creating, so you can figure out what possibly could have gone wrong. Since I don’t have a running system available (I’m on tour at the moment), I can show ou the way to this feature tonight or tomorrow (or Lukeman can help you? ).
I have heard of someone on the forum when I had that problem before, it could be a problem with the “ft.” in the title. I have everything renamed to “feat.” so this should be OK.

Since I tag those tracks to …
[tt]David Guetta feat. Anne-Marie - Don’t Leave Me Alone[/tt]
… I have no problems like you describe it.

Torben has a very special way to define this very special algorithm of the Mini Scheduler:

quote=“Torben, post:16, topic:8243”
Der Scheduler erkennt aber “feat.”, “&” usw. und trennt dann automatisch, um die Abstände zu berechnen. (Intern das “Rihanna-Feature” genannt.)
Translated:
However, the scheduler recognizes “feat.”, “&” etc. and then automatically separates to calculate the distances. (Internally called the “Rihanna feature”.)

This is one of the mAirList features I’m still laughing about. Great! ;D
I don’t know whether he has listed all of the recognized connections, but I’m convinced that “ft.”, “pres.”, “intr.” etc. are in this list, too.

So I’m with Lukeman that you should check your templates (or virtual folders?), especially as it happens suddenly since yesterday.

EDIT
Torben was on the fast track and overtook me:
Just check “Generate debug log” in the Mini Scheduler dialog, and a text file will open when scheduling is done. This file will tell you why a particular song has been picked.

I have done this, you can find my file on this link: https://www.sundanceradio.nl/MiniSchedulerLog.txt

Yesterday on 16th of January the songs “Amelia Monet - Badest Blinkie Remix” and “Kokiri - Faith in Love (Feat. Dragonette)” came back too early! (but this was yesterday)

Here some titles who are play to many times:

Armin van Buuren - Wild Wild son (toooo many times) 17-1-2019 > 20:04, 17-1-2019 > 19:55, 17-1-2019 > 16:52
David Guetta - Flames (feat. Sia) 17-1-2019 > 14:17, 17-1-2019 > 13.48, 17-1-2019 > 11:17, 17-1-2019 > 10:50
Remind Me to Forget (feat. Miguel) at 17-1-2019 > 17:10 , 17-1-2019 > 16:11, 17-1-2019 > 14.33

I have generated a new playlist for tomorrow in the miniplanner, and it says:

000250 2/40: ID 1692, artist “Armin van Buuren”, title “Wild Wild Son (feat. Sam Martin)”
000250 Last use: 17-1-2019 09:00:00
000250 Track separation is 33
000250 Artist separation for “ARMIN VAN BUUREN” is 2
000250 Title separation for “Wild Wild Son (feat. Sam Martin)” is 33
000250 Overall penalty is 0
000250
000250 3/40: ID 1642, artist “The Chainsmokers”, title “Side Effects (feat. Emily Warren)”
000250 Last use: 17-1-2019 10:00:00
000250 Track separation is 32
000250 Artist separation for “THE CHAINSMOKERS” is 2
000250 Title separation for “Side Effects (feat. Emily Warren)” is 24
000250 Overall penalty is 0

Thats not correct: 000250 2/40: ID 1692, artist “Armin van Buuren”, title “Wild Wild Son (feat. Sam Martin)”
000250 Last use: 17-1-2019 09:00:00

Because this track is last played not today 17-1-2019 at 09:00 but at 17-1-2019 at 20:04

All other songs i have shown in the attachments of this message, the you could see the history…

Another thing:
Also i have played a track from Tungevaag - All For Love (feat. Raaban & Richard Smitt) at the time of 17-1-2019 - on 19.06:30 and 20.08:09
but it isn’t shown up with HTTP post from mairlist to my website. What is going wrong?

Also, i don’t know why the log is showing this artist names:

because i don’t have those artist names in capital letters, and also not with ", " => with comma’s. I don’t get it…
for example: 000047 \ INGROSSO 17-1-2019 13:00:00
I have the artist name as: Axwell /\ Ingrosso -
And they all have 000047 ?

i’ll hope someone could help me :frowning:

p.s. i have also generated from the mini scheduler another hour (from 22 hour) to see what’s happens with a different music block.

you can find it on: https://www.sundanceradio.nl/MiniSchedulerLog2.txt

this log says the following:

000594 Pick random item from folder “A - Dance” (42), item count: 65, pick idx: 0
000594
000594 1/65: ID 874, artist “Benny Benassi”, title “Everybody Needs A Kiss (feat. Sofi Tukker)”

000594 Artist separation for “BENNY BENASSI” is 2
000594 Title separation for “Everybody Needs A Kiss (feat. Sofi Tukker)” is 28

000594
000594 Pick random item from folder “Extended & Original” (54), item count: 51, pick idx: 0

what does this mean exactly ? I don’t get it clear…
“Track separation is 28” ??

Last use: 16-1-2019 18:00:00 => this is ALSO not correct! it was: 17-1-2019 20.24 that the track was used at last…

The Mini Scheduler recognizes times where titles are planned - unfortunately, it doesn’t matter whether they have been really played or not.
The other way round, the Mini Scheduler does not recognize the played history of a title, only the planned one.

i think that is really weird, if it only checked when it is planned but not played that is weird, because i work with events, and the event generated a playlist every hour, en add the playlist every hour. Because of that, it is played at some times. So it will be planned and played though?
i understand that manually played is not important for the mini planner, but planned and played by an event is important for the mini scheduler to know if a track is played recently.

It does make sense though, just search on the forum. There are a lot of discussions on this subject and all is explained why it is done the way it’s done.

Why run the Mini Scheduler every hour? This way the risk of getting the same songs too early is much bigger. I usually schedule once a week and don’t notice this problem.

That leaves us the same question: what has changed recently as you didn’t have this problem before?

Nothing important, just add some folders to the music blocks.

Maybe it is another thing?

Does it matter that I have the music tracks in 3 separate folders in windows and have synchronized it to 3 separate virtual folders in mairlist?

Or is it important to have just 1 folder with all the music in windows and synchronize it at that way, and make in Mairlist virtual directories. Maybe tis is the big problem with the planner?

If that is the problem:
is there a way - while maintaining the cue points and tags - to synchronize everything AGAIN from windows (from 1 folder) to synchronize again to mairlist?

You said: “This way the risk of getting the same songs too early is much bigger. I usually schedule once a week and don’t notice this problem.” ==> you mean manually or also with an event? How can i genere and add a playlist for a hole week by an event ?

Hi All,

I am running into a strange problem. When generating playlists I see the same tracks being planned sometimes every hour. I noticed that the last time played in the debug log of the scheduler is different then if I look into the track history

How is this possible?

log1.png

log2.png

Last played is not the same as last scheduled. The Mini-Scheduler only looks at last scheduled.

I schedule once a week by hand from the Database-app.

i know that this is not the same, but if you only use the scheduler it isn’t possible that it comes there on a different way…

As I said… generate the debug log, upload it somewhere, and tell us the ID of the song(s) that you think are played too often.

Sundance we will be happy to help you with this, but please provide the information Torben asked for. This way we can have a look at it in a more structural way.

Hey Rob,

let me sum up the log:

As far as I can see you use the following rotation from these folders:

[ol]li A – Dance[/li]
li A – Pop-Dance[/li]
li B – Dance[/li]
li A – Slow & Summer[/li]
li A – Dance[/li]
li C - Dance[/li]
li B – Slow & Summer[/li]
li A – Dance[/li]
[li]DanceClassics[/li]
li A – Slow & Summer[/li]
[li]B – Pop-Dance[/li]
li A – Dance[/li]
li B – Slow & Summer[/li]
li C - Dance[/li]
li A – Pop-Dance[/li]
li B – Dance[/li]
li A – Pop-Dance[/li]
li A – Slow & Summer[/li][/ol]

So your folders are used as follows:

[ul][li]A – Dance (49), picked 4/49 [12][/li]
[li]A – Pop-Dance (44), picked 3/44 [14][/li]
[li]B – Dance (134), picked 2/134 [67][/li]
[li]A – Slow Summer (44), picked 3/44 [14][/li]
[li]C – Dance (82), picked 2/82 [41][/li]
[li]B – Slow Summer (85), picked 2/85 [42][/li]
[li]DanceClassics (58), picked 1/58 [58][/li]
[li]B – Pop-Dance (56), picked 1/56 [56][/li][/ul]

In my opinion the log does not show an error.
The items listed in the folders to be picked are sorted by “last planned, ascending”. When you now look at he algorithm, it takes the “oldest” songs in the folder in the selection.

The only thing I’m a bit confused about: Although there are some items listed as “never been played before”, they are not shown in the folder selection. I will check this with my own debug log.

Here’s the answer: In my folders it’s working.
Since there are some tracks that never have been played, the Mini Scheduler takes them first.

004781 Pick random item from folder "1990er (Main)" (741), item count: 2178, pick idx: 0
004781
004781 1/2178: ID 1921, artist "Jam & Spoon feat. Plavka", title "Angel (Ladadi O-Heyo)"
004781 Last use: never
004781 Track separation is 1043626
004781 Artist separation for "JAM" is 3
004781 Artist separation for "SPOON" is 3
004781 Artist separation for "PLAVKA" is 3
004781 Title separation for "Angel (Ladadi O-Heyo)" is 1043626
004781 Overall penalty is 0
004781
004781 Pick index reached
004781
004781 End of search, i=1, Count=2178, minPenalty=0, minPenaltyListCount=1
004781
004781 Picked: ID 1921, artist "Jam & Spoon feat. Plavka", title "Angel (Ladadi O-Heyo)"

Additionally, you can see how the “Rihanna feature” ;D works:
Jam & Spoon feat. Plavka is divided into the three artists “Jam”, “Spoon” ::slight_smile: and “Plavka” (I’m afraid, the same will happen to Blank & Jones; I also have seen the artist “Earth, Wind” and the artist “Fire” ???).

Back to your question: Maybe the number of items in your folders is a bit to small?

It certainly looks like the items in the virtual directories are a bit too small indeed.

In addition: once in a while I encountered myself that a certain song was never played and was never selected by the scheduler. When checked, it always turned out it was my mistake, sometimes the song just didn’t met the criteria I had set, sometimes in the properties I found that (by mistake) I had set a date at “Don’t schedule after”.

Leaves the same question: what has changed recently in your situation as you didn’t have this problem before?
