Currently, the event scheduler is (internally) part of the playlist. So if you have more than one playlist, you have one event scheduler for each playlist, each with its own set of events. (In the standard configuration with a single playlist, you won’t notice this.)
I wonder if this is really necessary, or if this design is rather irritating for new users. What do you think? Would you prefer to keep a separate list of events for each playlist, or would you prefer a global event scheduler?
I think that each Playlist is it’s own entity, therefore they should have their own Event Scheduler. It’s easier to see (for example) when an Advert/Promo playlist is going to re-load even when the main “music” Playlist is in Live-Assist. I suppose my reasoning being that you can easily see what each Playlist is going to do (or not do!)…
Hmmm nice question. We’re using Playlist creator to create our playlists and only using the scheduler for loading ‘next hour’ and saveMMD (In automation mode) In that case 1 scheduler would be enough. In automation we use 1 playlist and one player. Don’t understand why we should use 2 playlists in the automation ;D.
But… when you have different schedules on separate playlists it would be very helpfull if they have there own scheduler.
As Charlie said, if you use a separate ads/promos Playlist all the time, it’s easier to keep that separate and use its own separate Events 24/7 regardless of whether you are on Automation or not.
Yep - some people/stations don’t have the luxury of Adlog merging or proper “traffic” software, so perhaps schedule their own adverts/promos via a 2nd copy of their playlist scheduling software and load that in a 2nd Playlist. Having just remembered, StudioMixx do a reasonably-priced traffic program which will create advert logs that’ll import into the “pro” version of StationPlaylist. In fact, a 2nd copy of StationPlaylist can quite easily be configured to do the same thing… All depends on how complex you want it.
There’s your answer - spend some cash and save Torben some work
Each playlist (when using more than 1) already has its own event scheduler. You can specify which playlist is loaded on each occasion, so for automation everything could load into the playlist with a single player.
During live assist music could load into playlist 1 ads etc into playlist 2, just how we manage things.
I was wondering if anybody is actually using the possibility of (a) having more than one playlist and (b) having a separate event list for each playlist.
Yes I do have two Playlists (as Tony said, one for music and one for ads/promos), and I use events in #2 to load ad stacks.
P1 will soon use events so that it can ‘run’ ad breaks during Automation by importing the playlist containing the commands needed in Playlist 1 to do that. The ad stack playlists loaded by events into Playlist 2 already include the commands to restart Playlist 1 afterwards.
