Database

What should be handy for the data base , when you put new mp3’s to the windows explorer dir . Like our situation years 90’s or years 00’s and so on . by importing the mp3’s to the database only the new mp3’s will be reconized . Now what i can see is you must delete first all the mp3’s and import them again. Or if thereis another way to do this …

mAirListDB does not “store” the files itself, but only keeps the list of files in the designated storage folders that you registered in the configuration. Most people have a single “music” folder, often on a file server or NAS. But you can have more than one.

So you register the folder(s) as a storage in the configuration, and click “Synchronize”. mAirListDB scans the folder and presents a list of “new files” which you can add using the appropriate button. During this import process, the files are registered in the database.

When you add new files, simply copy them to the storage folder using Windows Explorer. and click Synchronize again. mAirList scans the folder and will display the new files in the left hand list - i.e. only the files that haven’t been registered in the database yet.

At the same time, it checks if all files registered in the database are still present in the storage folder. Any missing files will be displayed in the right hand list, and the button below it allows you to delete their entry from the database.

So in conclusion, mAirListDB does never add “touch” your storage folders. It only scans them and synchronizes its internal list with the actual list of files.

The only exception is the “Import folder” feature in the networked mAirListDB. You can choose a subfolder of each storage as “import folder”, and then drag files from any location on your hard disk into the mAirListDB window. The “Import files” dialog will come up, which allows you to copy the files into the storage import folder and register them with the database at the same time.

Goos: PLEASE read the chapter on databases in the manual, where all this is fully explained. If you still have any questions not answered there, please do ask in this thread.

I’m always keen to know of any changes or improvements needed to the manual! ;D
